ASTM A335 Grade P9 seamless steel pipe is a 9Cr-1Mo chromium-molybdenum alloy steel pipe designed for elevated-temperature pressure service. It offers excellent resistance to oxidation, sulfidation and creep, making it suitable for refinery, petrochemical and power generation applications.
Hongcheng manufactures A335 P9 seamless pipes in accordance with ASTM A335 / ASME SA335. All pipes are supplied in the normalized and tempered condition unless otherwise specified to ensure stable mechanical properties and reliable performance in high-temperature operating environments.
Material & Heat Treatment
A335 Grade P9 contains approximately 9% Chromium and 1% Molybdenum, providing improved oxidation and sulfidation resistance compared with lower chromium alloy grades such as P5 and P11.
Heat treatment includes:
Normalizing: 900–1000°C
Tempering: 700–800°C
This process produces a stable microstructure suitable for long-term elevated-temperature service.
Manufacturing Process
Steel Billet → Heating → Rotary Piercing → Hot Rolling → Sizing → Normalizing & Tempering → Inspection → Marking → Packing

Is ASTM A335 P9 suitable for hydrogen service?
P9 provides better resistance to high-temperature hydrogen attack than carbon steel. Material selection for hydrogen or wet H₂S service should always be evaluated according to project requirements and applicable standards.
