Large Diameter Welded Steel Elbow is a butt weld piping component fabricated from steel plate or pipe segments using rolling/forming and double-sided submerged arc welding (DSAW). Product Overview
Large Diameter Welded Steel Elbow is a butt weld piping component fabricated from steel plate or pipe segments using rolling/forming and double-sided submerged arc welding (DSAW). It is designed for high-volume fluid transportation, long-distance pipelines and heavy industrial applications where seamless elbows are limited by size or cost.
Unlike seamless elbows, which are formed from billets, welded elbows are fabricated to order and can be produced in diameters ranging from 24" to 120" (600 mm–3000 mm) with various wall thicknesses and bend radii.
Hongcheng supplies large diameter welded elbows in carbon steel, alloy steel and pressure vessel steel grades, with normalized or stress-relieved heat treatment and full non-destructive testing.

Manufacturing Process
Plate / Pipe Segment → Rolling / Forming → Welding (Double-sided SAW) → Heat Treatment → Dimensional Inspection → NDT (UT / RT / MT / PT) → Beveling → Marking → Packing

Welding & Heat Treatment
Welding is performed using qualified welding procedures (WPS / PQR) and certified welders. Double-sided submerged arc welding is used to achieve full penetration and reliable weld integrity, with welding procedures qualified according to project requirements.
Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) or stress relieving is applied according to material grade, wall thickness and applicable codes, including ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4 and EN 13480.

Every large diameter welded elbow is subjected to comprehensive inspection to ensure compliance with project and code requirements.

Welding Procedure Qualification (WPS / PQR)
EN 10204 Type 3.1 Material Test Certificates (MTC) are available for each production batch.
Third-party inspection by BV, SGS, TÜV, DNV or other agencies can be arranged according to project requirements.

FAQs
What is the difference between welded and seamless elbows?
Seamless elbows are formed from solid billets and are typically available up to 24". Welded elbows are fabricated from plate or pipe segments and can be produced in diameters exceeding 24", making them suitable for large-scale pipeline and infrastructure projects.
Do welded elbows have the same strength as seamless elbows?
When manufactured using qualified welding procedures and proper heat treatment, welded elbows provide mechanical properties and pressure-containing capability equivalent to seamless elbows, provided the weld quality meets inspection requirements.
What is the maximum diameter available?
Hongcheng can manufacture large diameter welded elbows up to 120" (3000 mm) in diameter, subject to project specifications and transportation limitations.
Is post-weld heat treatment required?
PWHT or stress relieving is generally required for alloy steel grades, thick-walled carbon steels and components operating under high-temperature or high-pressure conditions. Requirements depend on material, thickness and applicable codes.
