Y-Type Lateral Tee

Y-Type Lateral Tee

Y-Type Lateral Tee is a butt weld branch connection manufactured to ASTM A234 / ASME SA234, with butt-welding ends and applicable dimensional requirements based on ASME B16.9 and project specifications.

Product Overview

Y-Type Lateral Tee is a butt weld branch connection manufactured to ASTM A234 / ASME SA234, with butt-welding ends and applicable dimensional requirements based on ASME B16.9 and project specifications. Hongcheng manufactures and supplies Y-Type lateral tees in alloy steel grades for power generation, refinery process piping, petrochemical plants and other demanding high-temperature applications. Custom included angles, outlet sizes and wall thickness transitions are available according to project requirements.

Compared with conventional branch configurations, the Y-Type lateral tee features a gradual, contoured branch transition designed to help reduce stress concentration, flow turbulence and erosion at the branch junction. This configuration is commonly selected for high-pressure and high-temperature piping systems where flow distribution, pressure integrity and long-term service reliability are critical. Hongcheng supplies Y-Type lateral tees in normalized and tempered condition, with full material traceability, inspection documentation and project-specific technical support.

Material & Heat Treatment

Y-Type lateral tees are manufactured from chromium-molybdenum alloy steel grades including ASTM A234 WP5, WP11, WP22, WP91 and WP92, selected according to project operating conditions and design requirements. These grades belong to the same alloy systems used for ASTM A335 seamless pipes and ASTM A182 forgings of corresponding grades, with each product form governed by its respective ASTM / ASME material specification.

Key alloying elements vary by grade and may include: Chromium (Cr), Molybdenum (Mo), Vanadium (V), Tungsten (W), Manganese (Mn), Silicon (Si), Carbon (C),Niobium (Nb).

Chromium provides oxidation and sulfidation resistance, while molybdenum enhances high-temperature strength and hydrogen attack resistance. Vanadium, tungsten and niobium further improve creep strength and microstructural stability in advanced grades.

Typical heat treatment includes:

• Normalizing: according to the applicable material specification and qualified heat-treatment procedure

• Tempering: minimum temperature according to the applicable grade specification for normalized and tempered condition

Actual heat treatment parameters are controlled according to the applicable edition of ASTM A234 / ASME SA234, qualified manufacturing procedures and purchaser requirements.

Manufacturing Process

Pipe / Forging Stock → Cutting & Preforming → Hot Forming / Fabrication → Sizing & Calibration → Welding & PWHT (for welded constructions, where applicable) → UT & MT Inspection → Beveling → Marking → Packing

Hongcheng applies strict manufacturing controls throughout forming, heat treatment and inspection processes to ensure dimensional accuracy, smooth internal flow contours, material integrity and consistent performance of every Y-Type lateral tee, with special attention to branch angle, wall thickness transition and stress distribution.
